10/08/06 New Attacks

Well, well, well. Looks like we have the new attacks in Diamond and Pearl translated, thanks to Coronis.

It is a very interesting list. It looks like they got very creative with new attack effects, some of the entirely new concepts including:

We also see a variety of creative damaging attacks of each type that are both physical and special. It's very funny how difficult it is to imagine that, say, a Scyther is going to be able to dish out some heavy damage using a Dark attack. My brain is just not comprehending that. It's pre-programmed to think of Dark as exclusively special and hence inherently useless for a Pokémon like Scyther. I'm really first now realizing just how much this is going to change. D/P competitive battling will be very interesting.

Purple Kecleon is apparently looking for people with D/P who can trade old Pokémon to her so she can test the rumour of Aruseusu being obtainable after completing the National Pokédex. Check it out if you've got a Japanese GBA game and would be willing to contribute.

Just before reading about the new attacks, I had been playing Mystery Dungeon and thought how cool it would be if Diamond and Pearl let you throw items at foes. Then I read about the new attacks, and saw Hurl.

I was thinking the same thing, too, Butterfree, with the Scyther-Dark thing. Like... a Gardevoir can actually benefit from a Fighting-type move! That's too much to handle. :O

Also, I'm assuming that for the move Gravity, it actually disables the moves that require flight, not abilities. (At least, based on the site's wording.) Same with Treasure; it seems as if you have to use all of the other move's PP. :]

Oh, Butterfree, now that a lot of information has been thrown out, do you have a sketchy idea about your Pokémon team? :D

O_o What's the point of having a Super Struggle attack?? And it sounds like throwing rocks at the foe isn't illegal in Pokémon battling now. *coughPMDcough*
And the second to last one, imagine Mew with Wonder Guard. @_@ It's n00beriffic! And the Counter one is practically the same as regular Counter. You never know if the move is Splash or Struggle!

In fact, there's gonna be loads of changes now. And that rhydon evo will be really annoying, I tell ya.

Also, judgement pebble is a stupid name. XD

GF steal a lot of ideas from fans. Really, as I made a Gravity attack (with the same effects). Also, I think it's a bit too many attacks, but gruffhh as there's many cool Grass-attacks.

Very interesting. I think it'll take me awhile to really go through there and start remembering the attacks well enough to compare them and think about how they might be used. Overall, I think the special/attack split was interesting, as it gives a lot of new pokémon new options and chances how a lot of them work. The plethora of cool new non-damaging attacks is nice as well, though many of them look rather gimmicky and not altogether useful.

Also, the attacks that work only when the foe detect/protect will be nice in ASB to counter the rampant usage of protect/detect; however, they could easily pose quite a headache as they have several obvious leads to circular commands ("If it uses an offensive attack, protect!", "If it uses protect, use Feint!" Ref: "...*brain melt*").

Also, I find one more thing extremely amusing, given this direct quote from a post I made a while ago in a thread where you could come up with moves for D/P:

"Firstly, there needs to be a move that starts with the letter X, just because.

Secondly, this would probably be way too broken, and yet strangely cool:

Move Name: Blight
Type: Dark
Base Power: N/A
Added Effect: No pokemon (on either team) may regain HP in any way for the next five turns."

Still waiting to see if localization will give me my move beginning with X. ;)

Electroelevate just made Magneton, Metagross, and Electrode (to a lesser extint) really amazing. It's a move that makes a lot of sense and makes these Pokemon very deadly. UFO may become the best special-based Electric type out there, if not THE best Electric type ever O_O. I didn't even see this attack at first, it's fairly cool.
The most popular attacks of course will be the offensive ones. Like many people, I'm fond of the increase of grass and bug moves that don't suck. Nearly every Pokemon has a wide range of good elemental moves to choose from now.

great, I just semi-memorised what attack types are good for what pokemon, and this comes. Oh well *throws memory out window*.
This plenthora of attacks sure is interesting...a lot of UU pokemon will become OU, and vice-versa. And by the way...*strokes Emerald Magnaton* you're going to be a good hitter in DP...

With the addition of all these new attacks and abilities, my team on Emerald just became a lot more pwnful.
