04/09/10 Black and White
So Pokémon Black and White have been announced.
This is going to sound absurd, but I am actually still skeptical about the assumption that these are truly main series installments the way the fandom ordinarily understands it. After a progression from colors to precious metals to gemstones to diamonds and pearls, suddenly we go back to minimalistic black and white? I think this is an omen of some pretty major changes, at the very least.
But eh, there will be actual information soon enough, so we'll see.

I was kind of thinking along those lines. We started the Pokemon games with colors (RBY), then moved on to metals (GS), and then to gems (C, RSE, DP). Then we make a sudden but brief switchback to metals (Pt), and now we're back to colors.
If you ask me, it's almost ominous or something. It's like the games are coming full circle, y'know?
...With that last point, I really hope I'm wrong. I don't want the games to end yet! ._.

I think it's spposed to be one of those 'going back to the origins' things. Maybe they'll be announced as Ebony and Ivory for English, but IMO I think these will be the last bunch of new Pokemon we get. I think that makes me a little sad, but that sorrow won't take over my excitement until after all the new Pokemon have been discovered.

Listen ot this: According to Junichi Masuda, the reason why LeafGreen did not become WaterBlue outside of Japan was for the following reasons: A leaf is a symbol of peace, while fire and water are opposing concepts and thus would seem more like a conflict. A leaf is also a more easy concept to grasp for kids, and in this world of conflicts, the creators wanted to give a name suggestive of a peaceful world.
Ummmm Black and White is about as conflicted as you can get.

Look at the videos. LOOK THEY HAVE 3D BATTLING AND STILL HAVE SPRITES!
