I was going to say you infer that Azurill change gender when they evolve, but maybe male Azurill are just more likely to evolve. But, then I read that due to personality values, some female Azurill did, in fact, change gender upon evolution. Maybe they have a little amphibian DNA.

Confirms what exactly, where, based on what source?

Clay

Bulbapedia confirms it.

@Clay: I know about the Japanese guidebook that mentioned it, but I'm not clear on why that would mean they didn't decide that because they felt it'd be weird (did the guidebook include some sort of out-of-universe reasoning for this?). You seem to be implying the guidebook made it up without consulting Game Freak and Game Freak then felt bound to it because it'd been printed in the guidebook, but I'm kind of skeptical of that reasoning. If you're more familiar with it and mean something else, please explain.

Clay

No, Game Freak did not think that Nidorina and Nidoqueen eggs hatching into Nidoran♂ would be weird. What really happened was that Japanese media already established their inability to breed when G/S/C came out. (Despite that, their Pokédex entries still mention their children.)

Magikarp can learn Hydro Pump with the help of TR03 in Pokemon Sword and Shield :)
