Update

03/09/15: I know what you've all been waiting for

You're just dying to know more about D/P/Pt honey trees, aren't you? I knew it. Thanks to xfix (who has been regularly sending me game mechanics corrections for a while now - thanks!), I've added a bit about the 0.93% chance that there are only three Munchlax trees and a calculator to determine two of your Munchlax trees from your visible trainer ID.

I don't know xfix very personally, actually - I just regularly get good error reports from them.

I dunno maybe fansites themselves are a bit past it but on the competitive side there's still forums growing and the like. Pokemon Perfect is one that's been around for a while and is very competitive (focussed most on gen 1) and I made a forum to work on a fakemon project (called BAM - Build A Metagame), I think it's just that fan sites are generally with different purpose to previously, as lots of other means exist of quelling other Pokemon-fuelled desires. And Smogon covers pretty much everything anyway. Still love occasionally popping onto your site, with the odd fun tool or feature, and the RBY info is well-documented, better than I think most players were conscious of until the past year or so when we really dug deep. Also I see you know xfix.. I know them but not all that well, just curious where do you communicate? On simulators, or just via your website? Oh also I'm the person who contacted you ages ago on twitter about spriting (as BAM_Server or something)

I don't know to what extent it can be brought back. Largely I think the death of the fansite community is because social media sites like Facebook/Tumblr/etc. are providing the opportunity for self-expression and participation that once drove kids to want to create their own websites, and those aren't going anywhere. But I also think if there were more small personalish fansites, people would be more likely to make their own - I think most people who start a fansite are inspire by other fansites they've seen, and that makes the death of the community a bit of a vicious cycle. I'm doing my part by keeping up TCoD, but other people would probably need to take the initiative and make more sites to increase the odds of others getting into it.

Hello Butterfree!

I was a past Pokemon fansite owner but lost time to update it, even though I was still interested.

Now I notice that the fansite community is pretty dead which saddens me a lot. Any advice on how to bring back the community?
